About

Here’s a little bit about myself and the site.

My name is Ben, but most people online know me by Flint, flintmecha, furinto, or whatever other stupid variation I decide to come up with. I currently attend Augusta State University where I study Computer Science. I have a love for video games and a major goal of my studying CS is so that I can eventually create my own. But games aren’t the only things I enjoy. I love computers (and programming) in general. I also enjoy design. I’m not much of an artist, but I like web design, constructing layouts, making pages work, etc. I just wish I knew more beyond HTML. I know a little bit of PHP but not enough to do it on my own. That explains the hypocrisy of me using a blog theme that somebody else created, I guess. It’s an area I really am interested in, but one I don’t have much knowledge of. I have studied some Java and I am currently studying C++. I feel myself getting fairly proficient at it, despite still being in such early stages of it. I also have experience with Perl and XML. As of about November 2007, I am no longer strictly a Windows user. I’ve started to experiment with the Linux OS, mainly to see what it’s like and to try out something different. I get enjoyment from learning about technology and trying out new things. That sounds really lame, but it’s the truth.

As far as games go, I guess you could say I’m mainly a Nintendo guy. The Wii and DS are currently my systems of choice, but I also like PC gaming. It’s just that my laptop isn’t really cut out for most games coming out nowadays. I plan to someday (soon hopefully) build my own computer from the ground up, customized to how I want it. Once I do that, I’ll be able to enjoy tons more games. I like all kinds - shootan, adventuran, fightan, role playan, etc. I really like MMOs, though I can’t stand World of Warcraft. I’m a big fan of Guild Wars, however. I own every installment of it, right down to the expansion and the Bonus Mission Packs, and I eagerly await Guild Wars 2.

Hm, what else? I can be found in various other places online. I’m on Facebook, I have a deviantArt, and I frequent 4chan. I used to also go to a forum called Legends Alliance, but one day last July I quit that place cold turkey when I decided a majority of the members there were touchy, stuck-up crybabies who don’t know how to have fun. I like Internet-inspired humor and memes, and I’ve been known to troll. Despite this, I think Encyclopedia Dramatica is stupid, yet I will occasionally link to an article there, depending on the situation. I also hate Myspace. Mainly because of the whole culture it has formed, and because nobody knows how to make a Myspace that doesn’t make me want to stab out my eyes and/or cut off my ears.

This is about my third or fourth attempt at making and maintaining a website of my own. I think the blog idea is one that will stick, as it makes updating very easy an organized. I was inspired to put this together when I started a Computer Ethics project in December 2007, with the goal being to track and report stories concerning the Network Neutrality issue, which I plan on continuing.
