Super Smash Brothers Brawl Goes Gold

Awesome news.

It seems the Super Smash Brothers Brawl has finished development and is now in the printing stage (mass production of the game discs). In the video game industry, this is called “going gold”. However, it seems many people on the Internet are choosing to be skeptical. I don’t understand this. Are you guys really THAT paranoid that the game will be delayed again? Do you really find it THAT difficult to trust a site without an official source? Put down the pitchforks and put away the tinfoil hats. Brawl was recently playable at the latest convention (I don’t even remember what it was.. E3?) and has a scheduled release in Japan in less than a month. You’d have to be the most hopeless cynic to still believe at this point that Brawl will be delayed a second time.

Also in game news: the Nintendo DS has surpassed the Playstation 2 in lifetime sales. In the four years the DS has been on the market, it has sold 20,954,157 units, compared to the 20,901,468 PS2s sold in the past seven years. (Numbers from Media Crate, transcribed here.) Way to go.

Amazing. I can only imagine what kind of potential things like this can have. See more from Johnny Lee at his website.

Some Fun with Work

Published by Flint under Random, Work

First I was like “…”

Then I was like :O

Fortunately I’m not the only person here who thought it was funny. That made me feel a little better. While I’m taking a moment to write about work.. the NIH lab safety game that Janus is developing (which I’m testing) is reaching the final stages for its first release. There are still tons of issues with it, though. A note: the Unity game engine is a piece of crap. For those of you who don’t know about the project, read some stuff here and here. In the first link, “computer-based training” refers to our product.
